Fresh Bandit Attacks Hit Bakori Communities Despite Recent Peace Deal
Residents call for tighter security as fear spreads around Guga axis
Fresh tension has gripped parts of Bakori Local Government Area in Katsina State following renewed bandit attacks on rural communities, barely a month after a local peace agreement was brokered in the area.
Residents told Daily Trust that the latest assault occurred on Tuesday, November 4, when armed men stormed Doguwar Dorawa, a village located south of Guga town. Two elderly residents, identified as Alhaji Bishir and Alhaji Surajo, were killed during the attack, while one other person sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at the Primary Health Centre, Guga.
Several villagers were reportedly abducted, and many residents fled their homes amid the violence.
In a related incident, another nearby settlement, Layin ’Yannehu, was also attacked, during which bandits rustled livestock.
Confirming the attack, a local leader, Mahdi Danbinta Guga, posted on his verified Facebook page describing the situation as “deeply distressing” and urging security authorities to act swiftly to protect rural communities.
“Doguwar Dorawa, a settlement south of Guga, came under gruesome attack. Two influential elderly people in the community, Alhaji Bishir and his brother Alhaji Surajo, were killed. One person was injured and is currently at PHC Guga, while several others were kidnapped as residents watched helplessly from a distance,” he wrote.
He further revealed that “another community, Layin ’Yannehu, was also attacked and animals were rustled. We are now desperately trying to protect Guga town,” he added, ending his post with a prayer: “Allah ka iya mana.”
The attacks have sparked concern over the fragility of the peace accord reached last month between local communities and security stakeholders.
Residents have appealed to security agencies to intensify patrols and sustain the peace efforts to prevent further violence and displacement.
